LAS VEGAS – Timothy Bradley and Manny Pacquiao put on an outstanding show, but it was the judges who will be the big story for the next week or so.
Pacquiao landed 94 more punches than Bradley according to CompuBox, but it was not enough as the judges stunningly awarded a split-decision win to Bradley, who lifted the World Boxing Organization welterweight title from Pacquiao with the victory.

"I thought I won the fight," said Bradley, who said he hurt his ankle in the second round. "I didn't think he was as good as everybody says he is. I didn't feel a lot of his power."
Timothy Bradley celebrates his controversial win over Manny Pacquiao. (Getty Images)
It was an excellent back-and-forth bout, but Pacquiao seemed to control it by landing more, landing at a higher percentage and landing the harder punches.
Judges C.J. Ross and Duane Ford had it for Bradley, 115-113. Jerry Roth had it for Pacquiao, 115-113. Bradley won the final round on all three cards which pulled out the bout for him.
Pacquiao was shocked by the verdict.
"I do my best and I guess my best wasn't good enough," Pacquiao said. "I've been watching the tapes of his fights. Tonight, he never hurt me. Most of his punches hit my arms. I don't know what happened [with the scoring]. I have no problem. I'll be ready for the rematch. No doubt [I won the fight.]"
It was a stunning end to a more than seven-year winning streak for Pacquiao, who entered the bout ranked No. 2 in the Yahoo! Sports world rankings.
"Can you believe that?" promoter Bob Arum said. "I had it 10-2! After I got into the ring after the fight, I went over to Bradley and said 'You did very well.' He said, 'I tried hard, but I couldn't beat the guy.' This is crazy. You talk about killing boxing? All three scorecards you throw out."
Dreams of a megafight against No. 1 Floyd Mayweather Jr. may have gone up in smoke with the pens of judges who saw a different fight than the fans in the building and most media at ringside.
Yahoo! Sports scored it 117-111 for Pacquiao, the same margin as Tim Dahlberg of the Associated Press and Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Dan Rafael of ESPN had it 118-110 for Pacquiao. HBO's Harold Lederman had it 119-109, or 11 rounds to one, for Pacquiao.
"This is a death knell for boxing, and I'm going to make a ton of money on the rematch," Arum said.
Pacquiao landed 253 of 751 punches, a connect rate of 34 percent. Bradley landed 159 of 839, a connect rate of just 19 percent. On top of that, Pacquiao seemed to land the more powerful shots.
It was an action-paced battle fought at a furious pace for much of the event. Pacquiao showed little respect for Bradley's power and waded in with impunity, ripping straight left hands and hooks.
"He's a beast," Bradley said, while admitting Pacquiao hurt him several times with the left.
Bradley landed clean shots, but wasn't able to back Pacquiao up.
Pacquiao said he respected the decision, but felt he won the fight.
From the look on Bradley's face at the end of the bout, it appeared he felt the same way.

Twins born in Indonesia and put up separately for adoption, have been reunited after finding each other living just 40 kilometres (25 miles) apart, in southern Sweden, three decades later.

Non-identical twins Emilie Falk and Lin Backman -- strangers until last year -- were separated nearly 29 years ago.

According to a DNA test the pair had done two months after reuniting in January last year, and which they shared with AFP, there is a 99.98 percent chance of them being sisters.

A complex string of events led up to that revelation.

Both were adopted from an orphanage in Semarang in northern Indonesia by Swedish couples, but there was no mention in either of their documents of the fact that they had a twin.

When Backman's parents left the orphanage with her all those years ago, the taxi driver had turned around and asked them: "What about the other one, the sister?" and they jotted the girls' Indonesian names down on a piece of paper.

The name helped Backman's parents track down the Falks back in Sweden, and the two families got together a few times when the girls were babies to compare notes.

"They went through the adoption papers, but they didn't think we were very similar and there was a lot in the papers that didn't add up ... And there were no DNA tests back then," Falk said.

Among the discrepancies were different names for the girls' fathers. And although the records showed they had the same mother, the families eventually decided that this too was an error.

The two couples in the end wrote off the idea and eventually lost touch.

Although their parents had told them the story as children, both Falk and Backman later forgot about it. Growing up, neither was interested in information about their biological background, so they never asked.

"But when I got married two years ago I started thinking about family and my adoption, and when I asked my mother she told me this story again, and I decided to look for Lin," Falk said.

She had a name and began searching through a network for Indonesian children adopted by Swedish families, and found her on Facebook.

"I am born on March 18, 1983 in Semarang and my biological mother's name is Maryati Rajiman," Falk said she wrote, and quickly received the reply: "Wow, that's my mother's name as well! And that's my birthday!"

They found they had a lot in common.

They lived only 40 kilometres apart in the very south of Sweden, they are both teachers, they got married on the same day only one year apart and even danced to the same wedding song: "You and Me" by Lifehouse.

"It was really strange," Falk said.

"When Lin called me (with the DNA test results), I remember I was sitting in the car and when she told me I started laughing, because it just felt so strange," she said, adding: "I suddenly started thinking that we shared a womb. It was really strange, but really cool too."

Since then the two have kept in close touch, and have talked about going to Indonesia to search for their biological parents.

There are a number of details, some contradictory, in the adoption papers, including a reference to their father as a taxi driver.

"We are very curious if he is THE taxi driver," Falk said.

Asked if she wished she had found out about her twin earlier, Falk insisted "there's no use in being sad about something I didn't know about. I am only happy to have found her."

Ah, 1984! The year Ronald Reagan proclaimed it was "morning in America," and Steve Jobs told us his new Apple computer would ensure that "1984 won't be like 1984." It was so long ago, children, that MTV actually played music videos, many featuring the young Michael Jackson, and others — "Footloose," "Let's Hear It for the Boy," "Almost Paradise," "Holding Out for a Hero" and the irresistible title track — from a new movie about a teen's right to dance to loud music. Now it's a chilly October in America, everyone's grumpy, Jackson and Jobs are dead, and the only thing that hasn't changed is that someone believes we need a movie called Footloose.

In fact, virtually the same movie, about a big-city high-school rebel bringing his rock-'n-roll sizzle to a sleepy town that has banned dancing. That premise had Amish whiskers 27 years ago, when Kevin Bacon was the kid and John Lithgow the town's hellfire pastor in the Herbert Ross movie from Dean Pitchford's script. What's it got for 2011, when even puritans love Dancing with the Stars as long as Chaz Bono isn't on it? This time, actual dancer Kenny Wormald and Soul Surfer's Dennis Quaid play the generational rivals, but nearly all other elements are identical: the movie's logo, its plot, its characters, many of the shots and, most peculiarly, the songs. Because if there's one way for adolescents to break free from the hidebound conventions of the previous generation, it's to kick up their heels and dance to exactly the same tunes that Mom and Dad loved when they were kids.

After his mother dies, Boston kid Renn (Wormald) comes to live with his aunt (Annabeth Gish) and uncle (Ray McKinnon) in Bomont, Ga., which three years before banned "vulgar, demeaning amplified music" and "lewd and lascivious dancing" in the wake of a car crash that killed five high-schoolers. One of the dead kids came from the family of Rev. Shaw Moore (Quaid), his wife Vi (Andie MacDowell) and their daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough). The boy's death has launched pretty Ariel into a territory somewhere between damaged and deranged. She stands on railroad tracks as a train speeds toward her, and flirts dangerously with surly local outlaw Chuck (Patrick Flueger), whose biker gang seems sanitized enough to be called Heck's Angels. Ariel also comes on to Renn — who, though he sports a Back Bay accent and a greasy coif, isn't that kind of boy. When the one-time gymnast isn't angry-dancing out his frustrations, he's hitting the library books, including the Bible, to build a case that will convince the Bomont burghers to let their kids dance.

You may wonder why the Bomont board, given the circumstances of the youngsters' deaths, didn't ban teen driving instead of dancing. Also why so many dramas resort to cadging sympathy for their troubled characters by killing off loved ones. But give points for crazy reverence to director and script adaptor Craig Brewer, whose much grittier Hustle & Flow, back in 2005, also made a hero of a street renegade with a musical dream. Handed a story that was itself an informal remake of countless '50s B movies about kids trying to make their parents understand the cleansing ecstasy of early rock 'n roll — homilies that usually ended with the elders clapping their hands (though on the wrong beat) as Bill Haley & His Comets pounded out "Rock Around the Clock" — Brewer must have convinced himself that a schlocky old movie would speak eloquently to today's teens.

About half of the time, he pulls it off, nonchalantly integrating the town and its lovers, and acknowledging that in a country whacked by recession it's not a bad idea to dance off the social and political frustrations. Brewer also chose a strong cast. Wormald, with the soft voluptuousness of Val Kilmer and James Franco in their early years, has screen-seizing appeal, an easy charm and all the right moves on the dance floor. Quaid serves up a more nuanced and conflicted authority figure than Lithgow's self-righteous preacher; and Miles Teller, so impressive as the young man Nicole Kidman bonds with in Rabbit Hole, is a yokel sweetheart in the role of Renn's best friend (played by Chris Penn in the original). And though anyone over 40 will be tempted to give the willful Ariel a good spanking, Hough crawls into the roiling soul of a good girl trying her damnedest to be bad. Jamal Sims, who choreographed the Step Up movies, pours plenty of verve and expertise into the break-dancing, country-line dancing and plain old cuddle-up slow-dancing.

All right, maybe there is something timeless in anachronism. Maybe Brewer has located the heart beneath the hoke. And, just possibly, a critic steeped in cynicism can clap along to the disreputable, danceable seductions of the 2011 Footloose.

A Pan Am stewardess shares her experiences

Shirley McMahan lived the life of a Pan Am stewardess back in 1955, and while the new ABC show "Pan Am" may look glamorous, Shirley sets us straight.

Back in 1955 Shirley said she wanted to see the world and decided to become a Pan Am stewardess.

"I always wanted to be a stewardess. I went to Ohio State for 2 years and I waited until I was 21, and then I applied to Pan Am," said Shirley.

At the time, there weren't many career options that fit Shirley's needs.

Shirley says "nursing and teaching, neither of which I wanted."

What Shirley wanted was to fly overseas, and because she spoke Spanish, she flew to Latin American countries.

Shirley got a big kick out of watching a "Pan Am" promotion where girdles were prominent.

Yes they wore girdles, but "we didn't have somebody slapping us on the rear end to see if we had one one!"

The job wasn't all glamorous, but Shirley especially remembers an overnight flight from Caracas to Rio.

"We were not allowed to sleep, while everybody else did, and in the morning, we made eggs," said Shirley.
Still Shirley says it was a wonderful time in her life and she "wouldn't give it up for the world."

She did give it all up after only 2 years, for something better, marriage. Now "Pan Am" is bringing back memories and some laughs.

Mayweather has just wins in 4th round KO

Floyd Mayweather, left, and Victor Ortiz square off for a photo after a boxing news conference, Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, in Las Vegas. The pair are slated to fight for Oritz' WBC welterweight title on Saturday, Sept. 17
Just in one round, Floyd Mayweather Jr. got a head butt, a kiss and a hug from Victor Ortiz.

He responded with a right hand that ended a bizarre fight early.

Mayweather remained unbeaten and did it in emphatic fashion Saturday night, stopping Ortiz at 2:59 of the fourth round to take the piece of the welterweight title Ortiz brought into the ring.

The end came just as the two fighters emerged from a break, in which Ortiz had embraced Mayweather in the center of the ring. As they broke, Mayweather shot out a left hand and followed it with a right that put Ortiz down in his corner.

Ortiz struggled to get up as referee Joe Cortez called an end to the fight.

"We touched gloves and we were back to fighting and then I threw the left and right hand after the break," Mayweather said. "In the ring you have to protect yourself at all times."

The round was already controversial, as Ortiz appeared to head butt Mayweather intentionally, leading Cortez to take a point away from him. After the head butt, Ortiz went to Mayweather and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

Seconds later they were in the center of the ring ready to resume action when two punches ended it quickly.

"I took the break by the referee and I obeyed exactly as I was told," Ortiz said. "And then, boom, he blindsided me."

Mayweather was winning the fight through three rounds, dominating with speed and landing good right hands to the head of Ortiz. He won all three rounds on two ringside scorecards, and two of three on the third.

Ortiz picked up the pace in the fourth round, trying desperately to get inside Mayweather's vaunted defense. He did on occasion and was having a better round when, late in the round, he appeared to intentionally head butt Mayweather in frustration as the two fought in Mayweather's corner.

"He did something dirty when it was his corner who said I was dirty," Mayweather said. "But I won the fight."

Mayweather later engaged in a verbal confrontation with HBO announcer Larry Merchant, calling him a name at one point and drawing a pointed response from the veteran broadcaster, who said he would thrash the boxer if he "was 50 years younger."

While Ortiz claimed he was caught by a punch that came before Cortez ruled the fighters to continue, the referee said Mayweather did nothing wrong.

"Time was in, the fighter needed to keep his guard up. Mayweather did nothing illegal," Cortez said.

Mayweather, a 5-1 favorite in the fight against a champion 10 years younger, had vowed to go right after Ortiz and give the fans who bought the pay-per-view card at home an exciting fight. He mostly delivered on that promise, landing some good right hands in the early rounds and winning exchanges with his quickness.

But he hadn't really hurt Ortiz and took some punches himself in the fourth round as Ortiz seemed to rally before the head butt touched off the series of events that brought the fight to an end. Ortiz quickly apologized to Mayweather after the head butt, giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek while Cortez was busy taking a point away from him.

There was another quick hug in the center of the ring as action was about to resume, followed by the 1-2 combination by Mayweather that put Ortiz on his rear. Ortiz tried to get up, but was still on his knees when the fight was waved to a close.

"There's two ways to look at it but as far as I was concerned I came here to entertain the fans and I think they were entertained," Ortiz said. "There was a miscommunication with the referee but nobody is perfect and this was a learning experience."

Mayweather made a minimum of $25 million for his first fight in 16 months, a sum that will likely go up as the pay-per-view receipts are totaled. He could make even more against Manny Pacquiao next May should Pacquiao win his November fight with Juan Manuel Marquez and the two finally agree to fight.

Mayweather remained unbeaten in 42 fights, scoring the knockout he had predicted. Ortiz, who lost his 147-pound title, fell to 29-3-2.
