MR Archbishop Ignatius Suharyo in a Christmas message at the Cathedral Church of Jakarta, on Saturday said Christians along with the Indonesian people should be grateful, because freedom of religion in the country is guaranteed by the state.
"Christians together with the Indonesian people are grateful, because in this land of religious freedom is guaranteed. But it turns out that religious freedom can not solve everything," said Suharyo, while delivering a Christmas message at the Mass Pentifikal.
The Archbishop said the increasingly complex challenges of life together with the times, then religious freedom is not only seen from their liberty, but his hope is that religion truly renew life.
Suharyo also expect the leaders of Bishops Commission of Indonesia (KWI) and the Communion of Indonesian Churches (PGI), for holding on the advice of the saints, like the apostle, who said that the defeat evil with good.
"Vatican Ambassador to Indonesia (Leopoldo Girelli, red) were talking about Christmas in the context of today's World Peace which falls on January 1, said candidly that peace will never exist without freedom of religion, with all sorts of implications," he said .
But the point is, Suharyo say it is not just peace, for human dignity without freedom of religion itself became disabled and humiliated, as a matter of religion and faith depend on the respect for human dignity. "If it is violated, then human dignity itself is falling," he said.
Mass Pentifikal is chaired by Archbishop Ignatius MR Suharyo followed by about 2,000 Catholics.
Pentifikal Mass is held the third Mass at the Cathedral Church at 09.00 am, he said.
Before the start of Mass Pentifikal, right at 09:00 bell rang to begin the sign of the church.
Christmas Mass at the Cathedral will be held five times that at 06.00 pm, 7:30 pm, 09.00 am, 11.00 am and at 18:00 pm.
